Virtual reality cows

Farmers in Russia are currently experimenting with computer game headsets for his or her dairy cows. The idea behind this? Virtual reality could make sure that the cows experience less stress and thus produce more and better quality milk. A team of product developers designed special computer game headsets for cows that are specifically tailored to the top of a cow. What do the cows see through the glasses, you might ask? A beautifully flowering meadow under the brilliant summer sun. A cow’s paradise!

More research

Currently, it’s still unclear whether computer game headsets have actually increased milk production. This requires more research, but an initial test showed that the cows with VR headsets experienced less stress than cows that did not wear virtual reality gear. Russian farmers aren’t the sole ones trying to extend milk production by turning their cows into “happy cows.” Some Japanese farmers use so-called “mood lights” to stay their cows calm and satisfied. And within the us some cattle even gets to listen to music on the farm.
